Personally, I really like this shoprite, always with a good selection of everything you can imagine in a grocery store. However, a week ago, a very strict policy regarding self-service check-outs was implemented. Therefore, many of these were closed, and those that are open never function properly. The scale on the counter where the products must be placed never matches the right amount, making it necessary to call the area employee several times. I no longer feel like doing self check-out, so I look for a cashier to hand over the purchases to me. I don't understand what the company owners are thinking, for me it's complete nonsense, this way the pennies they will save with shoplifters will be spent twice as much on open human cashiers.
Friendly sherbet does not have a tamperproof seal .. i been buying this for a few years and now it finally happened ,,, get home and open it to see someone has taken a couple scoops out ..i am not happy ,,, and this is first time i seen this ,, but really have no idea if any other past bought ones has been tampered in any way ..
but will not buy this anymore ,, until friendly start putting a seal on .. like the other brands .. i plan to return this back to shoprite .. i also send email to friendly's but was very limited on what i can describe . and could not send them a photo too ..
I don’t love the parking lot. I saw a few near accidents while there. The store is huge and has a large selection of food. The staff is friendly and I loved the floral display.
Saker owned "World Class" ShopRites are the worst. I have been to a few of theirs in the area and they are all the same. This South Brunswick location has the worst produce department, they seriously need to get a new produce manager. Week after week, I keep finding rotten loose tomatoes and container tomatoes with mold. (see photo) The bagged lettuce is always full of water like they have been left out in room temperature (more on this below) and if you find a good one with a good date, it doesn't last longer than a day in your fridge. You can see fruit flies flying around the lacking fruit section. I have given up trying to purchase produce here.
The bakery department, which seems all outsourced, doesn't have a good selection of items compared to other grocery stores. Last December, they had stacks of burnt pies out for sale. Really? (see photo) Honestly, just take a trip to the non Saker owned Village ShopRite in Hillsborough or Stop & Shop in Franklin and you can see the difference.
The overall store layout is confusing and lacking variety. If you shop at night, head over to the dairy and frozen section to see new perishable stock just sitting on the floor at room temperature for hours, defrosting and spoiling until the 1 employee eventually gets to that isle to start putting the items away.
Lastly, I can't be the only one annoyed of the textured tile flooring in the deli and bakery section. It gets so loud with all the shopping carts banging and rattling all around. There are people that are sensitive to sound so why even make that choice of flooring?
I dread having to go here to pick something up. My friends and family all agree that they rather go to Target or Aldi, which is in the same complex, to buy their groceries.
Chicken section smells rotten every time I go in there. It’s covered in old rancid chicken juice… I’ve made the mistake of taking some chicken home anyway but could not bear the smell. Also so many items I’ve found past their expiration date. Disgusting and unsanitary
Was racially profiled there. Purchased items that was reported as per food journal that shoprite may had beef linked to salmonella. I even showed him the article on my smart phone. Receipt in tow the night manager Joseph M was rude, disrespectful, and racist! He rudely asked if I was insane! Then he refuse to honor a refund and threaten to call the police on me! I'm currently filing a lawsuit just because of his disgraceful and unprofessional behavior. I have not been back to this store since this incident happened on Sept 4 2023 at South Brunswick Hertitage Square.
I was happy at first that there was a new SR closer to home, but after frequenting this particular one my feelings have taken shape.
The deli: The display is welcoming however, you cannot request a sample if you are on a tight budget. Plus the help behind the counter weren't the friendliest when trying to explain the Saker rule. Basically: "we can't let you sample, too bad. Next." So I decided not to purchase but walk away 😌. The manager, Henrietta must have been listening and as I walked away disappointed she was following from behind the counter and approach to explained and apologize for the miscommu and rudeness. Upon her explanation I decided to purchase. It was an excellent save. She has exceptional people skills and was delightfully professional. Most SRs will allow you to sample. But here it's about money in my opinion. And I am watching the little bit of💵 I have to make it go a long way.
The seafood: The display is welcoming and can use a little more color. Most fish are fresh! But here is an unknown fact to the shopper: Ice has weight. For example if you are buying snow crab legs they will not rinse the ice off and you will pay for the ice weight. In my opinion this is not fair to the customer. Additionally, most of the time the legs in the freezer have been there so long that they are freezer burned and cannot be eaten. This needs improvement.
The meats: This department rocks! Meats are always fresh, help is always available and friendly advice with what's the best type of cut to use for a certain dish. Poultry packages are not packed with fat hidden underneath the meat which also has weight. This is a true and fair purchase.
I have not experienced the bakery or floral department so staytuned for an update to this assessment.
Checkout: Can use an attitude adjustment. Most of the clerks I've experienced really do not want to be cashier clerks. So I wind up self-checking out the very few items in between weeks.
Overall: Most employees are friendly, professional and helpful. Like anywhere else there are a few that shouldn't be in customer service. Once a month I faithfully spend about $250 at this South Brunswick ShopRite. Prices appear to be slightly higher. Last week I shopped at Aldi's for the 1st time and spent $91 for the same amount of produce. My wallet was doing a happy dance💃.
Please stay safe everyone and remember to:
1. Wear your masks 😷 and,
2. Use hand sanitizer if you cannot immediately wash your hands, and
3. Practice social distancing 6 feet apart.
4. Slow down
This is the ONLY place I can find these Stuffed Mushrooms! Boy these are good, save you tons of money buying them as appetizers from Red Lobster, when Red Lobster food is not the same anymore. The store is always clean and fresh unique soup everyday.
